Lorna Saxbee Counselling

Equine Assisted Therapy

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is one of the models used in this practice. EAP is just like regular counselling or psychotherapy only it is outdoors where a therapy horse works alongside the therapist to support the client. No riding involved.

Proven model of therapy

Research has proven EAP to be a highly effective model of therapy, achieving significant breakthroughs with clients especially with men and adolescents who prefer to be free from the constrains of indoor sessions sitting opposite a counsellor.

Why work with horses?

Horses are highly sensitive and can easily read and respond honestly by mirroring what is happening for a participant. This interaction occurs spontaneously and naturally with the horses, and by using horses rather than just a mental health practitioner, the participant is not restricted by feelings of being judged or interpreted by another person.

Importance of the right therapist for you

Therapy works best if you can find a therapist you can establish a trusting connection with. But finding the right counsellor for you can be stressful and often a waste  time and money spent with the wrong therapist.

Free initial session

To make this process easier an initial free 20min phone consultation is offered. Take this time to have a confidential chat about the challenges you're facing. you will get help identifying the outcomes you want from therapy and also gain the insight to decide if it's a good fit for you.
